Vivid Studios Case Study

Challenge

Established in 1990, Internet Professional Services Firm Vivid Studios built websites and software tools for diverse clients. In 1997, Vivid recognized the need to develop effective project management systems. Projects had grown too big and complex for ad hoc methods.

Execution

PureProject Group Principal Debbie Lefkowitz created a system where cross-disciplinary teams generated schedule and budget estimates for all new projects. She also implemented a project time and cost tracking system that gave senior management current information on all project budgets and schedules. Finally, Debbie worked with senior management to implement a company-wide resource assignment and tracking system, including an interactive tool project managers used to request resources.

Results

Vivid had a comprehensive and effective project management system to manage and complete projects on-time and on-budget. Morale in the project managers group went up as useful new project management systems and communication methods were introduced. Using these new tools, business development and senior management were able to make informed decisions about new projects and staffing levels. Creation and documentation of software best practices reduced project delays and cost overruns and improved product quality. The resource request process reduced last minute staffing requests and gave department heads greater ability to plan resource assignments before resources were needed.
