Getting a Project Done on Time: Managing People, Time, and Results
Paul B. Williams, Hardcover (March 1996) AMACOM ISBN: 0814402844
This book gives you quick, easy-to-read, start-to-finish
guidelines on all the essential project management skills and lessons you
need. It's a refreshing and long-awaited departure from the racks of dry,
dreary tomes designed for technicians and engineers.
Make Success Measurable! A Mindbook-Workbook for Setting Goals and Taking Action
Douglas K. Smith, Hardcover - 244 pages (April 1999) John Wiley & Sons ISBN: 0471295590
Quote from the Author:
The New Project Management: Tools for an Age of Rapid Change. Corporate Re-engineering and Other Business Realities
"I wrote Make Success Measurable! as a comprehensive "how to" guide to today's most critical dilemma: figuring out how to measure success and then achieving it. The book provides you the learning and perspective you need to overcome all the difficulties and obstacles you face in setting and achieving goals."
J. Davidson Frame, Jossey-Bass, 1994
This is quite a good book on Project Management in an Age of Change.
There is a good chapter on approaches to risk management. Estimation and
scheduling are covered and my favorite, earned value analysis.
I recommend reading only relevant chapters of this book,
for example, the section on building political skills may not be useful for everyone.
Project Planning, Scheduling and Control: A Hands-On Guide to Bringing Projects in on Time and on Budget
James P. Lewis, 3rd Edition, Irwin Profession Publishing, December, 2000
This is a good general overview of current project management techniques. It does assume some basic understanding of Project Management
processes and concepts. It has a good chapter on Earned Value Analysis.
The Deadline
Tom DeMarco, Dorset House, 1997
A story about a project manager kidnapped by a Russian conglomerate to develop
its software products. He must meet his deadline or die...The novel illustrates
the principles and the outright absurdities that affect the productivity of
a software development team. This is a fun way to pick up those "oh so boring" project
management concepts.
The Interactive Project Workout
Robert Buttrick Financial Times, Pittman Publishing, 2002.
This Book and complementary CD-ROM provide a solid overview of project management techniques. It employs a hands-on approach to learning,
with lots of sample materials. The examples come from large organizations, and he does not cover
project management in a client centered environment. Still, an excellent book.
